Welcome to the Shropshire Council Budget Simulator
Help set our budget for 2011/12.
This year Shropshire Council collected £128m in Council Tax which is 20% of our total spending of £628m.
The Council is anticipating significant cuts in Government Grants in 2011/12 and we are currently projecting cuts in government funding in the region of 25% over the next 3-4 years in all areas except for schools. The Council will also be implementing a 0% increase in Council Tax in 2011/12.
For Shropshire, we estimate that this means that the Council will need to cut its costs by around £47m over the next 3 years, which results in cuts of £15.7m in 2011/12. During the course of this year we are also making an extra £9.7m of cuts as a result of the Government's national reductions in public spending.
The Council will be looking at all the options available to reduce its spending and at this stage, nothing will be ruled out. The Council is consulting widely on its proposals and is interested in people's reactions to these key messages and ideas as to where the Council can make these savings.
Our budget simulator allows you to find out about the different areas of Shropshire Council's services and how much they cost each year. You can then make suggestions as to how you would change the way in which the council spends money next year.
During the course of this consultation we will be refining and updating the information available to inform your suggestions for our budget, therefore please revisit the simulator later in the process.
